How RosterRank works.

Firm facts

• Website, apply link, HQ state, coverage, lines of work and software come only from public sources: the firm's own site, careers pages and public job posts.
• Every firm page links its sources and shows the date they were last checked (Oct 29, 2026 for the current list).
• If a source doesn't say something, the page says "Not stated" rather than guessing.
• The coverage map on each firm page shades the states the firm names, and, separately, the states covered only by a nationwide statement.

Pay data

• Pay figures (% of fee or flat fee, mileage, days to get paid) come only from anonymous appraiser reports.
• The threshold is 5. A firm's figures publish only after 5 separate reports. Until then the page invites the first reports instead of showing a number.
• Published figures are ranges and medians, rounded (percentages to the whole point, dollars to the nearest $5, days to the nearest 5) so no single report can be picked out.
• A breakdown by state or software appears only when that group alone has 5 reports; otherwise it is folded into the firm-wide figure.
• We never estimate, average in outside data, or fill in missing numbers.
• When a firm publishes its own terms, we quote them as "What the firm says", kept apart from appraiser reports.

Role type tags

RosterRank lists firms that work with independent appraisers. A Staff role tag means the only route we could verify at that firm is a staff (W-2) job, not independent work; 4 firms carry it. Staff & independent means the firm offers both. Each firm page links the source for its role type. When a firm's own page doesn't say whether a role is contract or employee, we mark it "not stated" and show no tag.

Why there are no written reviews

Reports are fixed choices and numbers only. That keeps the data comparable, protects the people reporting, and keeps it fair to firms.

Neutral by design

Being listed isn't an endorsement, and not being listed isn't a criticism. RosterRank isn't affiliated with any carrier, appraisal firm or software company. The directory is sorted by the column you choose, A to Z by default. A paid placement, if one is ever offered, will always be labeled, kept apart from the table, and never change pay data or row order.
